At Johnny Prescott Oil & Propane, it’s our priority to keep you informed, satisfied and, most of all, safe. Our service technicians and delivery drivers are trained to meet all local, state, national and industry regulations. Still, we want to make sure that YOU know what to do if you ever smell gas.
Do you think of rotten eggs when you smell propane? Here’s a little-known secret: this odor is actually added to propane! It’s important that homeowners like yourself can detect a leak and get out of the area as quickly as possible, and the strong smell of propane makes that much easier. But then what? Take a look at the steps we’ve provided here to help give you the protection you deserve.
If you smell gas…
- Put out any possible sources of ignition. This includes candles, cigarettes and cigars.
- IMMEDIATELY exit the house or space where you smell gas.
- Refrain from using phones, appliances, light switches or thermostats until you are a safe distance from the spot where you first smelled the gas.
- If you can get to it safely, close the gas-shutoff valve on your tank or cylinder.
- Call 911 and Johnny Prescott’s Oil & Propane (000-000-0000) as soon as you’re in a safe spot.
- Please be patient—emergency personnel and the technicians checking out the situation need to be thorough as they check for leaked propane and complete any necessary repairs.
- Stay away from the site of the leak and don’t try to turn on the supply valve.
- Once you have permission from emergency personnel or the service technician, you can return, but please don’t do so prematurely.
